The 6th Annual “Back to School” & More! Autism Aspergers Conference will feature CARD Founder and Executive Director Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh as keynote speaker. The three-day conference will be held from August 19-21at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, California.
On Sunday, August 21, Dr. Granpeesheh will speak on the topic of “Understanding and Treating Anxiety in Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders.”
Individuals with autism spectrum disorders often present with anxiety disorders that cause significant functional impairments. While anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder,
phobias are common amongst individuals with ASD, the diagnosis and treatment of these disorders are made more difficult by the presence of communication delays, behavior problems and the lack of standardized
assessments. Her presentation will review the literature on the prevalence, features and assessment of anxiety in ASD individuals and offers guidelines for treatment through the use of cognitive behavioral
protocols that have been found to be effective in this field.
