Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT; Hayes, Strosahl, & Wilson, 2003) is a functional contextual approach to behavior change, rooted in applied behavior analysis (ABA) and Relational Frame Theory (RFT: Barnes-Holmes, Hayes, Barnes-Holmes, & Roche, 2002). ACT offers behavior analysts a “toolbox” for effectively addressing problematic private events that can interfere with the effective delivery of services to clients. When behavior analysts are able to identify problematic private events, they can then utilize research-demonstrated ACT techniques to maximize their effectiveness even in the face of extremely challenging clients (Snyder et al., 2011). This training is intended to provide an overview of the ACT model and its processes and to engage participants in both didactic and experiential exercises that will introduce them to the application of ACT in the workplace.
