Talking with Temple: Part I

She walked into the hotel lobby wearing a black cowboy shirt with a colorful design splashed across the upper chest. I was completely and unashamedly star struck. I had been talking with the director of the upcoming documentary, “Autism in Love” when I saw her walk in. I stopped speaking midsentence and my mouth hung open. “There she is…” I finally said out loud. “It’s Temple Grandin.”

Award-winning “The Story of Luke” Has Orange County Premiere At Irvine International Film Festival

Fluid Film is pleased to announce the Orange County Premiere of “The Story of Luke”, an award-winning film written and directed by Alonso Mayo starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Seth Green, Cary Elwes and Kristin Bauer, at the Irvine International Film Festival on Sunday, January 20th at 6:30pm (Edwards Westpark 8 in Irvine). There will be a Q&A after the screening with the filmmakers.

Autism Awareness Never Looked So Good

Paper Clouds Apparel is very excited to announce that from January 7th until January 21st we’ll be teaming up with the Center for Autism & Related Disorders (CARD) on a brand new line of bamboo shirts, prints, and greeting cards. All of the artwork being used on CARD’s merchandise was created by individuals with special needs from within CARD’s organization. Fifty percent of everything raised during CARD’s two-week block (Jan 7th – Jan 21st) will be donated directly to CARD.

Falling

The only hands quiet at the Minetta Lane Theatre are those depicted in the picture above. When the curtain fell at the off-Broadway show Fallling, the audience erupted in resounding applause. Falling is a new play that depicts the challenges faced in one ordinary night for a family with Autism. Playwright and mother of a child with Autism Deana Jent says, “It’s not just a play written to educate people about autism, it’s about asking questions, loving someone who’s hard to love and trying to get through like.”

Lou Taylor Pucci who brilliantly portrays this lovable yound man visits the set of Autism Live to tell how he researched and developed this endearing character, and how playing an individual with Autism has changed his view of the world.

CARD and Lineagen Offer FirstStepDx® Genetic Testing and Counseling for Children on the Autism Spectrum

Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) and Lineagen, Inc. today announced the launch of a new clinical partnership to offer Lineagen’s FirstStepDx® genetic test to patients and their families. FirstStepDx is a whole-genome genetic test customized with validated, novel proprietary genetic variants associated with ASDs. Under the terms of the partnership agreement, FirstStepDx, integrated with a pre-and post-test genetic counseling service and personalized reporting, will be offered to patients receiving treatment in CARD’s innovative Skills® program. The program is the first of its kind, designed to fully meet current clinical guidelines that recommend chromosomal microarray analysis as a first-line genetic test as part of a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation of individuals with ASDs.

CARD Helps ACT Today! Raise a Quarter of a Million Dollars At 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism Fundraiser

ACT Today!’s (Autism Care and Treatment Today!) 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism fundraiser raised over $260,000 on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California. Net proceeds from the star-studded event will help provide resources and grants to children with autism whose families cannot afford or access the necessary tools their children need to reach their highest potential, including grants for therapy, medical care, assistance dogs, assistive technology, basic safety equipment, tuition for special needs schools and social skills programs. More than 500 guests attended the fundraiser.
