We’ve been back in school for one week and I’m already dreading the morning crunch. My daughter has no problem waking up at 6am on weekends, but Monday morning rolls around and I am shaking her awake at 7:30. Things go downhill from there; she drags her feet with every morning activity, creating a ton of stress for everyone involved.

Parents of Children with Special Needs Conference

We invite all parents to attend this FREE, conference. Attendees will see presentations like, “The Journey of Being a Parent of a Child with Autism,” “Understanding NY Autism Insurance Reform,” “Understanding Your Rights as a Parent of Child with Autism” and “Functional Communication Training and Behavior Management.” Attendees will receive free “Back to School” backpacks for their child.

The A-Word, Part 51: Making Friends At The Park

Jack Riley, Jessica, and Mike are back at the park today so Jessica can observe Jack Riley play with his peers, and prompt him whenever he needs help finding the right words to say.

While on their outing, Mike meets a couple of parents and talks to them about his experiences with parenthood and autism.

The A-Word Part 2: Pushing Forward

The image of me at 25 weeks pregnant –so happily showing off my swollen belly leaves me asking if Jack riley was already affected then. I wonder, while looking at a picture of him just days home from the hospital if he was already on this path or if we’ve done something to him or not protected him in some way from the monster that would ultimately take over.
